CHANGING LANDSCAPES. & RESTAURANTS LONGEVITY.

December 11th 2025

in 2025, the average lifespan of restaurants in major global cities reveals a clear hierarchy influenced by economic resilience and adaptation to modern pressures. in Singapore, restaurants and eateries stay open for an average of  5.2 years, thanks to widespread delivery adoption and a stable, tech-savvy market that has largely absorbed post-pandemic cost increases. New York remains steady at 4.5 years, supported by high delivery penetration that offsets steep rents, while Bangkok (4.3 years) and London (4.0 years) face moderate to significant erosion from rising food costs, labour shortages, and daily closures.at the lower end, Tokyo (3.9 years) and Hong Kong (3.8 years) are the most challenged: Tokyo’s density and early closing culture, along with Hong Kong’s ongoing license losses and cross-border dining exodus, keep most new openings alive for less than four years.
